As per GOI, MHA order No. 11034/16/2010-IS-VI dated 26/07/2010,NIA took over the investigation of FIR No. 28 dated 19/02/2007 of Railway PS, Karnal, Haryana and re-registered the case on 29/07/2010 at PS NIA, Delhi as case No. RC- 09/2010/NIA/ DLI under section 121, 121A, 387, 120B of IPC

Summary of Allegations

On 19.2.2007, the accused persons caused explosion in 4001 Delhi – Attari express (Samjhauta train) during the intervening night of 18th/19th Feb 2007 at about 23:53 Hrs while passing through Diwana Railway Station near Panipat, Haryana. Two unreserved coaches bearing No. NR GS 03431, NR GS 14857 caught fire after the explosion. As a result, 67 people were killed on the spot and 13 passengers got injured. Out of the total 68 deceased, 33 were male, 19 female, 10 male children and 6 female children. Later two unexploded bombs were also recovered from the site.

Present Status

Charge sheet has been filed on 20/06/2011 against 05 accused persons, first supplementary charge sheet was filed against 02 accused persons on 09/08/2012 and second supplementary charge sheet against one accused persons on 12/06/2013 before the Hon’ble NIA Spl Court Panchkula. Trial of the case has commenced w.e.f. 24.02.2014.
